How to use ZeroPercent

For parents, kids and teens

1. Set up your familySay Mum sets it up. She downloads ZeroPercent, picks My family and verifies her number. That makes her the family's admin. A family can have up to six people.
2. Choose a code wordMum picks one word for the family. It's added to every rescue text, so the people you contact know straight away that it's really you.
3. Invite everyoneMum creates an invite code for each person. Codes look like ZERO-ABCD, and each one is for one person. For Dad, she chooses Admin, so either parent can approve people and manage the family. For the children, she chooses Member. A single parent just invites the children.
4. They join, and an admin approvesEach person downloads the app, taps I have an invite code, enters their code and verifies their number. Mum gets a notification, checks it's the right person, and taps Approve. Nobody sees the family until an admin has approved them.
5. Everyone adds their trusted peopleEach person adds the people they'd want to reach if their phone died. Family members show up as suggestions you can add in a couple of taps.
6. Set your Zero PINChoose a 6-digit PIN you'll remember under stress, not your bank one. With your number and date of birth, it's how you sign in to the rescue website from a borrowed phone.
7. Learn the rescue stepsYou don't contact anyone from the app in an emergency. You use the ZeroPercent rescue website, zeropercentapp.com, from a borrowed phone. The app walks you through exactly what that looks like, so you know what to do before you need it.

For a partner, a parent, a housemate

1. Set up your DuoOne of you downloads ZeroPercent, picks Me and one other person and verifies your number. It's for a partner, a parent or a housemate: anyone you want to keep an eye on each other's battery with.
2. Invite your personSend them the invite code, which looks like ZERO-ABCD. They download the app, tap I have an invite code and verify their number. You get a notification, tap Approve, and you're connected.
3. Watch each other's batteryYou'll each see the other's battery level and when it was last checked. Nothing else: no location, no messages, no app activity.
4. Each add your trusted peopleYour Duo partner shows up as a suggestion. Add anyone else you'd want to reach too.
